The 25 percent tariff forced Jaguar and Land Rover to pause vehicles they send to the United States. Jaguar Land Rover is one of UK’s biggest carmakers. Layoffs for Hourly Workers in the auto industry due to tariffs
Many auto manufacturers are figuring out how to pivot to stay in business. Layoffs have started in the Midwest. 900 hourly employees were temporarily laid off in Michigan and Indiana. They made powertrains and stampings for manufacturers in Canada and Mexico for Jeep, RAM trucks, Dodge, and Chrysler. An assembly plant in Canada for Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager will close for at least two weeks. The plant will also affect the Dodge Charger Daytona production. That plant employed 4,500 hourly workers. Another plant in Mexico which has 2,400 hourly workers will close for the rest of the month. They make Jeep Compass and Wagoneer S.
